ZIJA FACTS & FINDINGS WITH DR. PLANT: LAUGHTER

Dr. Plant discusses how humor and laughter are two of our most powerful tools in achieving a healthy lifestyle
We have all experienced the contagious properties of roaring laughter. We know how a simple chuckle can quickly change our perspective of the day. We have felt how a belly laugh with a colleague can quickly turn them into an endearing friend. We all know some of the benefits of laughter and humor; however there are some lesser known, but just as important, benefits of humor.
Relaxer: Laughter is one of the most powerful natural relaxers. It can leave muscles less tense for up to 45 minutes after a good laugh, and decreases stress hormones such as cortisol.
Immune Booster: Looking to help keep your health in check through the cold and flu season? Make sure you surround yourself with people that make you laugh.
Cardiovascular Health: Laughter improves vasodilation and blood flow helping you live a more heart healthy lifestyle.
Studies have shown that laughter with people is much more powerful than laughing alone, so find a friend.

FACTS & FINDINGS WITH DR. PLANT: ANTIOXIDANTS

Dr. Plant discusses nature's defense against DNA and cellular damage, also known as antioxidants.
Take a deep breath; do you know you just supplied your body with enough material to generate 3,240,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that's 324 followed by 22 "zeros") free radicals?
A free radical is any molecule that has an unpaired electron. Free radicals are molecular instigators, and will often start a chain reaction of unstable molecules within the cell. This is because the unpaired electron of the free radical will metaphorically pull the electron off of another molecule (e.g. protein, DNA, phospholipid, etc.), thereby causing those molecules to become unstable.
For the average person, free radicals cause between 10,000 and 1,000,000 molecular lesions (or mutations) in every cell per day. The abundance of free radicals we are exposed to cause an insurmountable amount of damage to our genetic and cellular health.
What is the solution, to stop breathing? The solution the body uses to mitigate the risk of free radical damage is with molecules called "antioxidants".
Antioxidants are molecules that have an electron to "donate." So when an antioxidant comes into contact with a free radical they readily donate their extra electron to the greedy free radical. This prevents the free radical from stealing an electron from a more precious molecule such as DNA or proteins.
As stated earlier, we produce an abundance of free radicals just from the air we breathe, not to mention the food we consume or the environment we're exposed to. In fact the diets and environments that have become the norm are not only lacking in antioxidants, but are also greatly enriched in free radicals. This means more than ever we need to provide our body with the antioxidants it needs to fight off the damaging influence of free radicals.
Make sure you are getting the antioxidants your body needs through natural sources.

FACTS & FINDINGS WITH DR. PLANT: EPHEDRA NEVADENSIS BY DR. JOSHUA PLANT

Dr. Plant helps us better understand Ephedra nevadensis: What is it, and is it okay to consume?
When we hear Ephedra we think back to about 15 years ago when the media and government spoke about its dangers. I want to explain a little bit about Ephedra nevadensis and how this is completely different than the Ephedra that was banned ~15 years ago.
When news agencies spoke about Ephedra 15 years ago, they were referring to a compound called "Ephedra Alkaloids" (see picture). That compound is found in a botanical called Ma Huang. Thus the compound Ephedra was mentioned because it was the active ingredient, but the actual name of the botanical it is found in is called Ma Huang.
Ephedra nevadensis on the other hand is a botanical name, and isn't referring to the compounds. In fact, numerous studies have shown that Ephedra nevadensis does not contain any Ephedra Alkaloids, and is therefore both safe and legal to sell. It just happens to have the unfortunate circumstance of having a name similar to that which was found to be a buzz word 15 years ago. It is like the unfortunate circumstance of people who have the name Katrina or Andrew, and then a hurricane is given the same name.
In short, Ephedra nevadensis is safe and legal to consume. It in no way contains Ephedra alkaloids, the compound found in the botanical Ma Huang.
A little highlight on the botanical: It grows in the deserts of the western U.S., and has been consumed for hundreds/thousands of years to help remove the buildup of mucus in our airways. Thus by supplementing with Ephedra nevadensis individuals may often feel an increase of energy because they are more effectively able to get the oxygen their body needs by clearing the congestion/pollution that has built up in their airway, which limits oxygen intake. You can find Ephedra nevadensis in products like Zija's XM+ Energy Mix and XM3 Energy Drink.

FACTS & FINDINGS WITH DR. PLANT: THE NUTRITIONAL CRISIS

In the third installment of Facts & Findings with Dr. Plant, we hear his view of the nutritional crisis we face today.
We often go about our day not looking at food as addictive, but there are many different addictive components of food, and the food industry knows and exploits this. Certain compounds in food will release the neuronal hormone called dopamine. Dopamine is often called the reward hormone because it is the hormone that the brain releases to cause a “euphoric” feeling in the body.
Stimulant drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine, and morphine all cause a strong release of dopamine in the body. The release of dopamine is responsible for the “high” but is also responsible for the addictive properties of the drug. Dopamine releases are not necessarily bad; in fact we are genetically engineered to release dopamine in response to certain compounds in food. For example, when an infant breast-feeds the baby experiences a slight dopamine release due to a compound similar to morphine in the mother’s milk, this in turn makes the baby experience a small “euphoric” feeling and subconsciously seek out to breast-feed again in the future. Unfortunately, there are several compounds that cause a dopamine release in food that have been extracted, isolated, enriched and added to other food to cause addictions.
Two major compounds found in food that cause a dopamine response are sugar and casein. Sugar is enriched and added in surplus to many of the foods and drinks we consume on a daily basis. The abundance of sugar in our diets has created an addiction to those foods. This is why we crave soda even though we are not thirsty and will consume a milkshake even after eating a hamburger meal. The abundance of sugar in our diets makes it very difficult for us to turn down food even though we are not hungry.

Casein, another component responsible for food addiction, is the major component of cheese, and like sugar, causes a dopamine release in the brain. When the body breaks down casein it produces a byproduct called casomorphine, which is an opioid peptide and will travel to the brain to release dopamine. Have you ever wondered we crave pizza and can’t stop eating it even after the third slice? It is because casomorphine causes a release of dopamine in the brain making us want to go back for more.
The food industry knows that sugar and cheese are addictive and that is why they spend millions of dollars each year isolating and enriching the sugar from sugar cane, or engineering a super “sugar” in the form of High Fructose Corn Syrup and adding it and cheese to everything in our diet. These items have been added so abundantly to our diets that the average person consumes roughly 35lb of high fructose corn syrup a year, a 100lbs of added sugar to food that it is not naturally found in, and 34 pounds of cheese a year. This equates to the average individual eating 1,340 calories a day just from added sugar and corn syrup, and another 215 calories a day in just cheese consumption. This addiction alone is causing us to eat ourselves fat and sick.
In fact, a study was just publicized that illustrates how addictive these compounds can be when isolated from their natural co-nutrients and enriched and added to our daily food. Dr. Joseph Schroeder attempted to qualitatively measure the addictive properties of the Oreo cookie. In this study he had a mouse that was fed both cocaine and Oreo cookies and then placed each one at opposite ends of a maze. More often than not the mouse would gravitate towards the cookie over cocaine, suggesting that the combination of fat and sugar have more addictive properties than cocaine. In contrast, when mice were fed rice cakes and cocaine the mice would gravitate towards the cocaine, showing that not all food is addictive but some has the power to be more addictive than some of the most addictive drugs.
The problem with increasing our food consumption via addictive agents is that the food industry will enrich for these compounds at the expense of the nutrients that they are usually found with. For example, 150 years ago we would still eat sugar, but it would be found in its natural state in an orange, which also contains vitamin C, fiber and a variety of antioxidants. Sadly, today we consume our sugar that has been isolated from all of its associated nutrients to maximize the dopamine response and added to an orange flavored candy with no naturally containing nutrients. We are eating the equivalent of 19 oranges a day in added sugar, but consume less than 1 orange amount of fiber and vitamin C a day. Thereby, we keep eating foods that are high in addiction and calories, but low in nutrition causing an increase in our waistlines and medical bills.
Zija's Daily Tea contains the following natural ingredients, which help fight back against food cravings:
The yellow fruit Garnicia Cambogia increases the release of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which signals to the body that is satiated and helps block fat absorption to ensure that fat cells are used appropriately throughout the day for energy.
Bitter Melon controls appetite at the cellular level. It is enriched with four unique phytocompounds, which work collectively to increase the level of AMPK. AMPK aids in the uptake of sugar from the blood stream and signals to the body that it is full.
Astragalus Root acts as a cellular de-stressor and stimulates many enzymes that work to protect nucleic acid degradation, allowing cells to carry out metabolic functions more efficiently, such as helping the body recognize when it has had enough to eat.

Part 3 of 3 on the Weight Management System: Detoxification by DR. JOSHUA PLANT

The first two parts of this series focused on nutrition and suppression to limit the conversion of calories into fat. Today's section focuses on helping to convert the fat you already have, back into usable calories by detoxifying your body.

Lipolysis is the process of converting fat into usable macromolecules, which enter into the bloodstream, and then eventually absorbed into cells. Lipolysis, though great in converting fat into usable energy, is also a waste generating process. In fact, as we convert fat into usable macromolecules, numerous waste products are produced; this ranges from uric acid to carbon dioxide.

When our body needs energy, it wants to convert our stored fat into usable calories. However, if our body is filled with toxins it will safeguard itself by not adding to the toxin pool, or in other words our body won't poison itself by burning fat. Therefore, the rate of fat metabolization is dependent upon the rate we detoxify our waste.

In summary, the weight management system allows individuals to first "grease" the energy pathway through nutrition; second, limit the abundance of unused calories through suppression; and finally, accelerate the rate of lipolysis through detoxification.

Part 2 of 3 on Weight Management: Suppression by DR. JOSHUA PLANT

Yesterday, I posted on the first pathway that needs to be addressed to promote a healthy weight, namely, Nutrition. Today, I am posting on the second pathway, Suppression.

As mentioned yesterday, calories have one of two roads to travel. Calories can either be converted into energy (nutrient dependent pathway), or they can be converted into fat (nutrient independent pathway). When nutrition is abundant, calories are more likely to go to down the energy pathway.

However, even though we may have an abundance of nutrition in our diet, if we are eating too many calories, those excess calories will be converted into fat. This brings me to the second part of this series...Suppression of caloric intake.

An effective weight management system needs to incorporate a regimen that promotes moderate caloric intake. In fact, scientist have shown that approximately every 3,500 excess calories we consume equates to a single pound of fat.

How do we suppress our caloric intake?

1) Choose foods that have a long satiating ability. Foods that are enriched in protein and fiber usually fall into this category.

2) Avoid simple carbohydrates. When our blood sugar levels rise, our body responds with an insulin release. Insulin is the key that opens the door to the fat cells, allowing the excess sugar to enter into the fat cell and be converted into fat. Therefore, when consuming your calories make sure they are limited in simple carbohydrates, which will stimulate an insulin response.

3) Exercise. Exercise has been shown to not only promote caloric burning, but also diminish the desire for caloric intake.

4) Eat a healthy breakfast. Studies have shown that when individuals have a healthy breakfast they consume less calories throughout the day compared to individuals who skipped their breakfast.

5) Supplement with appetite suppressing herbs and botanicals. With so many food companies engineering their advertisements and food to make you want to eat, it is impossible to do it alone. Supplement with certain botanicals and essential oils, such as: Green tea, Moringa, grapefruit essential oil, and several others that help satiate the appetite.

In summary, look to supplement your body with nutrition, but also suppress your desire for caloric intake, because nutrition without suppression usually won't promote the results of nutrition and suppression together.

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM - PATHWAY #1 NUTRITION BY DR. JOSHUA PLANT

In the picture I attempt to show that when we consume calories, those calories have one of two pathways to move through. These two pathways are outlined as (A) and (B) in the picture. In pathway (A), calories can be converted into energy. This is the energy that we can use to run, think, and ultimately is the energy that we also refer to as metabolism. For reaction (A) to go forward, nutrients are required. For example, many B-Vitamins are responsible for converting carbohydrates into glucose, which in turn enters into the cell to be included into the Citric Acid Cycle. The Citric Acid Cycle then converts the cellular glucose into cellular Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP), which is required for most energetic reactions in our cell.

When nutrients are scarce, pathway (B) is the predominant route of calories. In this pathway calories are converted into glycerides and stored as fat in adipose tissue. So even though we may be consuming a lot of calories, when we are starving for nutrition, we are unable to convert those calories into energy.

Therefore, to begin any weight management regimen it is vital to supply our body with the nutrition it needs. When our body has the nutrition it needs, this will "grease" pathway (A), giving us energy from the calories we consume and thereby limiting the conversion of the calories into fat.

Nutrients should be natural, because when we consume artificial nutrients (e.g. multi-vitamins), our body doesn't know how to properly respond to those nutrients. To see more on this topic, refer to a my old Facebook posts comparing natural nutrition versus synthetic nutrition.

Lastly, it is best to provide nutrition to our body in the morning, so that as we consume our calories throughout the day, the nutrients are presents to help facilitate them down pathway (A).

ZIJA'S MORINGA By Dr. Joshua Plant

Moringa Leaves

Over the last 50 years we have observed the widespread commoditization of food. While it is cheaper and more readily available than ever before, the low-cost manufacturing and harvesting practices used to produce food have compromised its nutritional value. For example, 100 years ago the average person consumed around 200 grams of fiber daily; today that number is closer to 15 grams. The result is a worldwide nutritional famine.
The beneficial properties of Moringa are unparalleled and highly unique. Moringa is enriched with both water and fat-soluble vitamins, it is an excellent source of the amino acids that our body craves, and it has rare phytocompounds that aid in promoting a healthier body.
Recognizing that the nutrition in Moringa is not immune to harsh harvesting and manufacturing practices, Zija has gone above and beyond industry standards to deliver the most nutritious Moringa possible. From tree to mouth, Zija scrutinizes each step to ensure that nutrition is at the forefront of all decisions in the growing, harvesting, and manufacturing processes. I will address just a few of the steps that Zija takes to ensure that the nutrition of our products is never compromised; after all, Moringa without its nutrition becomes just another plant.

MORINGA FARMS

Not all Moringa is created equal. In fact, depending on where Moringa trees are grown, their nutritional content can vary significantly. Knowing this, Zija has vetted several different locations and farms where our Moringa trees will have the highest nutrient content available, even if it comes at a premium cost.

DRYING PROCESS

We work tirelessly to ensure that Moringa’s nutritional properties are conserved as much as possible during its harvesting and preparation. While shade drying is a much longer and more costly process than drying in the sun, it also prevents harmful UV rays from crosslinking vitamins and minerals, which would render them inert. This once again demonstrates Zija’s commitment to delivering the most nutritious Moringa possible.

MORINGA BLEND

Zija has created a proprietary blend that incorporates several different efficacious parts of the Moringa tree. This blend has allowed us to achieve a complementary nutritional profile. For example, even though Moringa leaves contain a lot of Vitamin C, the pods contain even more. By combining Moringa leaves, seeds, and fruit, we can maximize Moringa nutrition in products such as SmartMixSuperMixXMproteinXM+ Energy MixXM3 Energy DrinkXMam, and XMpm.

PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

As a leader in manufacturing technology, Zija uses state of the art machinery for each and every one of our products. Understanding that nutrition can be compromised by exposure to sunlight, oxygen, and time, we quickly blend and assemble our products into airtight sachets that meet the highest standards of manufacturing.
Here at Zija, we are unwilling to compromise the nutritional value of Moringa. In doing so we are able to deliver a highly valuable product that helps address the nutritional void that is so prevalent in today’s diet. 3 MAJOR FACTORS TO CONSIDER IN JOINING ANY MLM AND WHY MORINGA FROM ZIJA IS THE BEST

In joining any Multi Level Marketing (MLM) Business/Network Marketing you really need to consider these factors.
You have to consider them because you are joining the business primarily to make money. As Zig Ziglar would say money is not everything but it ranks up there with oxygen!
Here are the 3 major factors to consider;
1. The Company

THE PRODUCT

All Zija products are made from Moringa Oleifera. This single tree provides more for human health than any other tree, plant, fruit, or vegetable, including all herbs. Zija is first to market Moringa based products which are a category creator. Facts about Moringa:
